Getting to Know Me

Professionally I am a department manager and buyer for what my reps tell me is one of the largest fabric shops in the country! Quilting is by far the largest department in the shop. We cater to quilters with over 7,000 bolts of quilting cottons. I meet with ten representatives (reps) who handle forty manufacturers twice to four times a year each. I spend between three and nine hours each time looking over hundreds to thousands of new offerings. I listen to our customers and attempt to meet their needs and fulfill their desires. I would love to know what you like also.

Although it may seem some of the time that the sewing aspect of this blog is all quilting, it really won’t be. People frequently ask me to make something for them, and every so often I say “yes” which results in a larger variety of sewing adventures.

Besides sewing and quilting, what stuff do I do??

I embroider and I am fortunate to have been taught beading by a friend who is a qualified Japanese embroidery teacher! I sometimes dip a nib into a bottle of ink and do pen and ink renderings. Occasionally I might do a little weaving. Through my involvement in a re-enactment group called the Society for Creative Anachronism (the SCA), I also make period clothing. See??? Stuff! I also have a dear friend who thinks I should include pictures of my orchids! So….. I believe I shall.

If you’re all about quilting, just skip over a post that doesn’t interest you. And come back for the next one on quilting.

I appreciate nice comments. I really don’t enjoy feeling as though I’m talking to thin air. I would love to know that something helps you or you enjoy it.

Since people are curious, it's certainly one of my inherent traits, here are a couple of pictures.

First my portrait.

Then a normal day.

I hope that what I give to my customers in person, I can also impart to you in this blog. Connect with me on social media using "Shilo RustRyburn" no hyphen. Let’s be friends!

  2. Shilo, First time visiting your blog. Very nice!!! I've learned much more about you from this then from all the times we spoken at the shop.
Thank you for your time today when my Mom and I were in. She enjoyed the store and you. "She's such a nice girl, there is no one like that at the store (Joannes) at home. You are a blessing. Luce G.
