Netting is 72” wide folded in half and then half again to 18”. DO NOT UNFOLD IT. When cutting down length of the 1 yard piece for narrower branches and decorations, cut through all layers and baste without picking it up.
Construction ~
Trunk: Fold brown netting in half to about 4” longer than tube. Center tube on top of netting. Roll netting around the tube. Stitch both ends closed.

Basting: Begin by knotting the thread with a little loop at the end. Insert needle through a hole in the netting about 1/2" in from the edge. Insert the needle through the loop and pull thread through loop. Do all basting with very long stitches down the double folded side when possible.

Start the first branch approximately 20” up from the bottom of the trunk for the 5’ tree and 12” for the 3’ tree. Place the top branch 2” down from the top. Arrange the other branches in the space between two alternating shades of green.
Place each gathered branch group around the trunk so that the branch points towards the top of the tree. Tighten the thread to fit around the trunk with an overlap of approximately 4” for the bottom branches and 2” for the top branches. Stitch through the branch anchoring it securely to the tree.
Pull apart and fluff the layers of each branch to give it a fuller look.

Decorations ~
Accordion fold center of netting strip. Rotate slowly placing two or three folds at each turn. Use the same looped thread method as used for basting to secure each group of folds.

Place larger decorations on the larger branches and the smaller at top. Attach by sewing. Scatter the colors around.

Gold Star ~ 7” width. Baste down the middle of the length. Fold in half along basting line. Shape decoration and sew it to top of the trunk.

Here is the finished project in its intended spot over a small round table of Christmas fabric.
